Beyond Spirituality

Over centuries, men have conceived the idea that they are the possessors of a spiritual centre, a divine spark, which makes some, or all, of them superior to other species.  Some Roman emperors declared themselves to be divine. Centuries later, Descartes would declare all humans held a divine element within, something withheld from non-humans.  Non human animals were thought to be so inferior and brutish they were rightly enslaved. They existed for mankind’s use.

Religions consistently write of higher and lower states of being, consciousness divided into the sacred and the profane.

Do these divisions exist, or are the fantasies?
